In a groundbreaking logistical operation, Express Global Logistics (EXG) of India executed a colossal task, transporting enormous modules essential for a cutting-edge green hydrogen project in Saudi Arabia. Each weighing up to 250 tonnes, these structural behemoths were indispensable for the project’s advancement.
EXG orchestrated the movement of 14 monumental modules, each reaching impressive dimensions—50 meters in length, 12 meters in width, and 18 meters in height. Collectively, these modules amassed a staggering weight of approximately 1,500 tonnes.
The intricate operation required EXG to deploy state-of-the-art Scheuerle self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT), equipped with 48 axle lines and two power packs, from their renowned Megaload division. Custom-designed spacers were integral to bearing the immense loads safely.
The eight of these modules were transported via an innovative roll-on roll-off (RoRo) method, utilizing ramp plates and stools for seamless loading onto vessels. Meanwhile, the remaining six modules were painstakingly maneuvered to the quay using SPMTs, and lifted into place with crawler cranes.
The venture demanded not only sophisticated planning but also acute attention to strategic details. A pivotal aspect was the precise adjustment of the ship’s ballast to maintain stability across the transoceanic voyage.
In pursuit of expanding their operational prowess, EXG forged an alliance with Italian expert Fagioli under the Megaload banner in early 2023. This partnership was designed to bolster their capabilities in petrochemical and construction endeavors through advanced lifting techniques.
This ambitious undertaking has set a new benchmark in global logistics by showcasing exceptional engineering and strategic collaboration.
